The goal of the National Science Foundation's (NSF) ADVANCE program is to increase the representation and advancement of women in science and engineering, resulting in a more diverse engineering and science workforce. In 2006, the NSF awarded the University of Arizona a $3.3 million five-year ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Award.
