Director, Justice Initiatives

Denise L. TrimbleSmith (she/her/hers) is the Director, Justice Initiatives in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion for the University of Arizona. Denise manages and implements high-priority initiatives and projects that advance the University’s diversity and inclusion efforts, build relationships with diverse stakeholders, and develop inviolable collaborations with students. Before joining the University of Arizona, Denise served as the Coordinator Senior for Fraternity and Sorority Life and Chair of the Commission on Ethnic Diversity at Northern Arizona University.  She has a creative approach to programmatic efforts, and an expertise in formulating risk management trainings, crisis management, community engagement and service. Denise is the first in her family to graduate college earning an A.A. American Sign Language Interpreting, B.A. History, and M.A. Special Education.  She has 3 amazing daughters. Together, the four of them love sports, music, travel, movies, dancing and desserts!  Denise TrimbleSmith is a Life member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Her favorite quote is “I would rather walk with a friend in the dark than alone in the light”. (Helen Keller) Denise is focused on elevating the biggest of dreams to an action driven vision that will result in a changing our world.
