In honor of Veterans Day, University of Arizona News is highlighting some of the university's varied research, education and outreach partnerships with the U.S. military.

The $3.5 million grant from the Department of Energy is part of a larger project that will bring together researchers from Arizona's three universities to study climate in the state's Sun Corridor.

Since its founding in 1999, the Native American Languages and Linguistics master's degree program has been training students in linguistics, language documentation and language revitalization.

At the second annual Tribal Leaders Summit, leaders of Arizona tribes met with President Robert C. Robbins and learned about health sciences research and programs that serve Native American communities.

Tropical cyclones often cause damage from strong winds, storm surges, intense rain and flooding, but extreme heat is an additional hazard, researchers have found. Extreme heat often follows tropical cyclones and can further complicate disaster recovery.

The school is 25th overall and sixth among public universities in The Wrap's annual Top 50 Film Schools ranking. The school had several achievements in the past year, including relaunching the Hanson FilmTV Institute.

A new $10 million gift from the Steele Foundation includes the first private philanthropic support for the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies.

The university has strengthened its commitment to the Native American community over the last year through efforts including the Native Scholars Grant program and Native FORGE.

Gov. Doug Ducey announced $150 million in funding for the Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies, a center being developed by the University of Arizona Health Sciences.

The program will partner business owners and operators with a mentor and provide training and technical assistance over the next year to help their businesses grow.
